The President of the United States of America has issued a statement that he’ll invite Kim Jong Un of North Korea over to the White House if the next week’s summit goes well.
“And I think it would be well-received. I think he will look at it favorably. So I think that could happen.”
However, he added that he is ready to abandon the meeting at any point.
“All I can say is I’m totally prepared to walk away. I did it once before. You have to be able to walk away,” Trump said.
President Trump has declared how everyone will know if the meeting goes well, he said the phrase “maximum pressure” will be heard in his speech.
“Maximum pressure is absolutely in effect. We don’t use the term anymore because we are going into a friendly negotiation,” he said.
“Perhaps after that negotiation I will be using it again. You’ll know how well we do with the negotiation — If you hear me saying we are going to use maximum pressure, you know the negotiation did not do well, frankly.”
President Trump said Kim Jong Un’s letter, which was hand delivered last week to the White House, was “warm” and “nice.”
“Well, the letter was greeting. It was nice, perhaps, I can get approval to put it out. It was a warm letter and nice, and I appreciated it very much. And nothing other than we look forward to seeing you and look forward to the summit and hopefully some wonderful things will work out. So it was really warm and nice. We appreciated.”
